6 Ways to Have Fun at the Oktoberfest Without Beer!

6 Ways to Have Fun at the Oktoberfest Without Beer!

When you don’t drink, but want to be a part of the largest beer festival because your friends are going, it sounds a bit crazy. Believe us, it isn’t. Thankfully, Oktoberfest has a lot more to offer than just BEER. In this blog, we’ll tell you how to have a great time without having to jump the beer wagon.

Wear the Traditional Outfit
Although there is no compulsion on what you can wear, people prefer wearing the Bavarian outfit when in Bavaria. If you’ve been reading about Oktoberfest lately, then Lederhosen and Dirndl are terms you’ve probably read before. For those who are visiting the first time, Lederhosen is a traditional outfit for men. It’s basically a short with leather suspenders. Women wear Dirndls, which is again their traditional outfit. Also, if you’re wearing the Dirndl for the first time, you should know where to place the bow. The bow gives a hint about your marital status. If you’re single, the bow has to be on the left.

Drink Wine
While the beer lovers enjoy their Maß Bier, if you like to try some wine, your best bet is the Weinzelt (wine tent). They offer more than 15 different wines, along with different types of sparkling wine and champagne. The tent is open until 1:00 in the morning. At Weinzelt, you can enjoy the Prosecco and their live music even when the other tents are closed. If you neither like wine nor beer, see if the German Radler suits you. A German Radler is beer mixed with lemonade.

Relish the Knodels and Brezen
Germans love their beer, but they also love eating. If you’re a foodie, the must-tries include the traditional Würstl, Roast pork, chicken and the most popular Brezen (Pretzels). The food stalls are set up right outside the beer tents. To make sure your friends are not getting wasted drinking only beer, order some delicious pork knuckles and go for a binge.

Explore Bavaria
Oktoberfest is a folk festival that starts from 21st September to 6th October. At Oktoberfest, you’ll find people from different countries and similar interests. You never know, you could make friends with another non-drinker. And if you do, simply take your backpack and set out to explore Bavaria. Munich is the capital of Bavaria and has a spectacular architecture to wow a first-time visitor. Take a walk at the English Garden or go for a day tour to check out the beautiful Linderhof Castles.

Entertain Yourself
Oktoberfest has ways to entertain attendees of all ages. The fun begins when you see the beer fans do some crazy stuff after a few liters down. From dancing on the benches, singing the YMCA to falling off and getting wasted, you’ll witness it all. Entry to the beer tents is free. You’ll meet people from all over the world, strike a conversation and join them to do a Schuhplattler dance.

Enjoy the Rides
Oktoberfest offers some really cool rides for all the thrill-seekers, be it kids or adults. Here are some of the rides, you must try when you’re at the Oktoberfest.
